In the words of Mr. Hoch, "I found your web site about two years ago after visiting the mountains in North Carolina and seeing some interesting outhouses there. I thought maybe I could find out more about them, but got nowhere. The thought of outhouses kind of died out for a while until one evening last summer. I was trying to come up with something unique for a well cover, not wanting to do the “wishing well” theme since it has been done thousands of times. While studying the shape of the various pipes, wiring, etc., it dawned on me that an outhouse shape would fit perfectly over the exposed parts. I revisited your site and figured out dimensions from various outhouses you have listed, I used door sizes to calculate heights and so on. I built a 1/3 scale outhouse, the results are shown in the attached pictures. It is made entirely of cedar except the roof, which is made of regular asphalt shingles – hand cut to the proper proportion. All boards were hand planed to mate to its adjoining piece, and then additional cedar strips were nailed/glued over the seams to give it a “rough” look. It took about 60 hours (I know – waaayyy too much time) to build. You folks were the inspiration for it.
Thanks and best regards."

What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so why don't you add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page.
