Craig sent an update of the progress of the old crapper style toilet restoration that is in progress. Its been fully stripped with some parts manufactured, painted and cleaned. There's a lot more cleaning to do and polishing. Its taken 3 months of slow time to get where it is. It was difficult stripping as there was a century of crap (real shit) stuck to the valves and inside. Here are the most recent pictures.

Here's the latest update as of February 2017:
Unfortunately the owner of the old crapper (my boss) moved to Australia taking the capper with him. I did clean it up and get it looking alot better then it did. I believe he was to turn it into a glass coffee table when he got to Australia.

I made alot of parts for it including new rubber seals and the main mechanical arm which attaches to the copper damper. I also made a new piston for the damper and I believe it worked well. I never tested with water but it all seemed mechanically sound.

The bowl had split from its Base at some point in its life. That was the hardest part to repair. I had to use special cement and drill tiny holes and fit pins for reinforcement.

Craig contacted me and asked if I knew anything about this 1800's vintage valve closet. Here is what he had to say...
I've recently come into possession of an old, and what I believe to be a Thomas Crapper valve closet. It is almost similar to the one in your pictures dated 1890. The one I have has a patent no 15068 1884 printed on it. Its bowl is round and not square. The flushing mechanism is pretty much identical. The toilet is in a sorry state and I would like to get it into working condition.
I've emailed the Thomas Crapper company asking for more info and any pic's they may have of a working one or at least a complete one to help me in trying to clean up this 130 year old LOO. If required I will send pic's on Tuesday when I'm back in work as it's secured in my workshop.
I've searched the Internet for the past few days trying to get more info but I'm not finding much. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Our reply to him: "Thank you for contacting The Outhouses of America Tour web site. Your best bet for the information you are looking for is to contact The Thomas Crapper LTD company in the UK. It sounds like you already have done so." Over the years, we have been contacted by so many people looking to sell outhouses, asking to find out when the one they have was built, contacted by the actual Thomas Crapper LTD company in England and we have received interesting photos like the above. It's a wonderful life!

What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so why don't you add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page. For additional comments, begin on this page and click the links to see all the years...
