These outhouses were found in and near Fairbanks and North Pole, Alaska. The first one is actually a little outside Fairbanks at a place called Skinny Dicks. This place is a bar and sort of an X-rated store in the middle of no where. You can probably read about it on the web somewhere. It's closed in the winter and open in the summer. You can also rent small cabins there. This outhouse is next to the original Skinny Dicks establishment that has since gone down hill and been abandoned.
The strange outhouse you see next can be found inside the Museum of the North in Fairbanks, Alaska. It is actually located at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. There was some kind of art contest and someone built this outhouse as an art exhibit. One interesting thing to know about outhouses in Alaska is that in the winter, it can get down to 60 below zero or lower. Outhouses usually have a piece of the blue foam insulation with the hole cust in it to sit on. I'm told that at 60 below, as soon as you sit your butt down in the blue foam, it is warmed by the insulation and you don't get a cold arse!
The last outhouse is found near North Pole, Alaska. I have not seen this one in the summer but in the winter, it doesn't look like it is used very often, if at all. The weather was beautiful the day I took these pictures but pretty cold. These were taken in March and the temps were hovering near 28 below zero.

What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so why don't you add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page. For additional comments, begin on this page and click the links to see all the years...
