The entry to the 1825 Church's 5-holer Photo by W. Kemp
Of all things, this gentleman found a church with a 5-holer. The photo above shows the entrance. The photo at the right shows the row of church seats which actually face the "area of business".

In the words of the contributor, these photo's are of my 1825 church's long defunct 5-holer. The outhouse is about 60 years old and has a row of old church seats set in front of the area of 'business' as if others sat in front of you to carry on a conversation while you did your thing. Those were different days indeed. |
I am guestimating it is about 60 or more years old as I am 50 and it has always been there. To my knowledge, it wasn't used in my time. As you can see, it was built just within the woods about a 50 yards from the church. |
As you can see with the view through the door, these are ancient church seats that for some reason were put in front of the area of 'business' as if other people sat in them while others were doing their thing. Find it hard to believe. This church here in Nash County, NC goes back to 1825 so it is no telling how old the 'chairs' are....I suspect much older than the outhouse......You can see three holes but there are 5 and are of different sizes. |
What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so here is your chance to add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page. You can use Email to respond. |
