These outhouses were found by my Mom. She used to teach school next door to them back in the 1933-34 school year. They are located near the Rosendale Church which is near St. James, Minnesota. Can't you just imagine 20 screaming children all running to be the first in line to use the outhouse during recess?
From the pictures can you tell which is leaning; the outhouses or the telephone pole? Also, on the left is the "new" outhouse which was built right next to the "old" outhouse on the right. The telephone pole separates them in the picture. The new outhouse is designed exactly like the outhouse on my Grandma's farm in Minnesota. I guess the same guy (could it have been Chic Sales?) built them both! Both had the small square window at the top to let in the light.
In January of 2003, I was contacted my Mr. Thompson. Here is his comment.
"I live a couple of miles from the now infamous Rosendale Outhouse in a village called Grogan. I attended country school here and so did my parents. I am making a web page for Watonwan County and either have or have access to old pictures of country schools. I am sending a picture of the Rosendale Church and the outhouse. The outhouse is located to the right on the church picture and to the right of the outhouse was the school [that the Outhouses of America Curator's mother] taught at. I took these pictures for my County Plat publication."

What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so why don't you add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page.
