OK! So we went on a mini vacation this year to Marinette, Wisconsin to sample the World-Famous Mickey-Lu's hamburgers. We traveled through the upper peninsula of Michigan and decided to visit the Seul Choix Point Lighthouse. These pictures tell about the lighthouse and show it to you. The picture is actually a picture of a model of the lighthouse built by the son of a previous lighthouse keeper. It is now mounted on a pole so you can take a picture of the model with the real lighthouse in the background. If you look real close, you can see yours truly at the top of the light!
An Outhouse Fashioned After a Log Cabin

Once in a while you come across a beautifully designed outhouse. This outhouse was spotted along a road leading to the Seul Choix Pt. lighthouse in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is several miles East of Manistique, Michigan. We were on our way to the lighthouse and spotted this outhouse along side the road. Next door was another outhouse (shown below) but not nearly as modern. The one shown on the left is an example of fine workmanship. It was fashioned after the log cabin on the land. The model on the right, which is just behind the horse's head was inside a museum full of items used during the logging done in Michigan.

This outhouse was located in the lot next to the lot containing the log cabin outhouse shown above. This one was mighty old and badly in need of repair, BUT, still usable!
A Very Old Outhouse Tucked in the Back Yard

This outhouse was placed far back from a house in the back yard of a house on the way to the lighthouse. It too is very old but notice the square chimney-like vent. If you look closely, you can see what appears to be the vent wood in the window.
A Green Outhouse?

Is it or isn't it? Is the green building an outhouse? Not anymore. It was transformed into a shed. The outhouse on the right is across the road from a fishing bridge located East of Escanaba. The bridge is dedicated to a person who used to work for the State of Michigan.
A Better View of the Modern Outhouse

This is a much better view. Note the large black vent pipe in the back. This is to draw up the fumes using natural convection from the heat of the sun. The photo on the right shows the modern conveniences found today in an outhouse. |
What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so here is your chance to add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page. You can use Email to respond. |
