Ok, Ok, So it's been a while...
Well you'll be happy to know that this coming Thanksgiving weekend the Curator himself will go on a field trip to THE OUTHOUSE in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. What an interesting, er, place. As you can see in the photographs, there is a lot to see. They sell the outhouses out front and inside, there is a lot to keep everyone busy including homemade fudge, a complete room upstairs containing all kinds of weather vanes and cupolas. Some of the other items of interest, which tends to be more touristy than I would like, are a wooden cow with flowers growing out his back, rare red bats, a talking bomb, Uncle Barney playing the piano, a barking bone, a scary mailbox that talks, a large bear trap, a man-eating chicken, LARGE underwear for sale and, of course, outhouses! Contact them at (717) 687-9580 or you can visit their brand new website by clicking HERE or click on the bumper sticker at the top of this page.

One of the main attractions is a full sized outhouse located inside the store. As you open the door, you find granny sitting on the throne screaming at you to close the door and give her some privacy. She is shown above in the photo. Be sure to note the hands holding the door open...
Of course, there is a lot more to see in Lancaster Country than just one store. There are all kinds of Amish things to buy. Of special interest is a very nice quilt store on the corner next to THE OUTHOUSE. The quilts are out of this world. If you go there, tell them you saw a description of their place at my web site!
Of course, life would not be complete without eating great food and Amish country is THE Place to go to eat great home cooked meals. If you are in Lancaster County, I recommend the Good N' Plenty Restaurant in Smoketown, PA. Although it is a bit pricey, you can eat all you want. They sit you down at a long table with other people and then introduce you to your neighbors and then they begin bringing the food, and more food and more food and then it's time for desert. The shoofly pie there is delightful. I hold the record for eating the most AFTER eating all the other food; four (4) complete pieces! I roll out of the door afterwards. Tell them you found out about them from my web site. Maybe they would be so kind to send me some gift certificates? Contact them at (717) 394-7111.
Last but not least, my all time favorite store to go to is none other than the Dutch Haven Shoofly Pie shop. I picked up a couple Shoofly pies there and managed to make them last a whopping two weeks after I got home. They are yummy!!! This store will actually mail them anywhere. Tell them you heard about their place from me. For a Shoofly pie a month, I'll continue to plug their bakery. Contact them at (717) 687-7611. The owner of the The Outhouse store in Lancaster has sent me several Shoofly pies recently. They are FANTASTIC!!! They don't taste like molasses. They have a sweet brown sugar taste to them and I love it. Of course, I have gained about 10 pounds recently as well. I'm sure the pies had something to do with it!

What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so why don't you add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page.
