Here are photos of a recently built East Texas Outhouse. In the words of the builder...My wife and I purchased some wooded acreage near Athens, Texas and since there wasn't any water there, and we were in need of sanitary facilities, we decided to build a privy. I found your website in the course of my research and now know why people love Outhouses...this was a fun project and a work of love.
Our privy features beaded paneling, a stained glass window and electricity. I used black PVC for venting that works as a thermal stack. I supplemented this with a 4" 12 volt PC vent fan that I installed inline. We use peat moss and a small amount of lime and are very happy to report that we have an odorless Outhouse. There are two screened windows on either side, allowing for good cross ventilation and I shuttered them to keep out the elements. I made sure in construction to make it bug proof and critter proof. So far, so good. My daughter is preparing to add a mosaic floor to it. It really has become a family project.
What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so why don't you add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page.
