An unusual Outhouse door in Zep Photo by Andrew McMichael |
These are pictures of the second outhouse to occupy the hunt camp near Zep, Virginia. [See "A Hunt Camp's Greatest Commodity" for the other, which is one of the first contributed Outhouses on the Outhouses of America Tour way back in 1997!] The new outhouse was constructed following a move of the main hunt camp to a new location on the other side of a hill. Notice the windows, with curtains, affording a fine view of a pond and nice valley in the Shenandoah area of Virginia. In early spring 2002, about a two years after it was installed we had to dig a new hole and move the outhouse. We dutifully covered the old hole with lime and dirt and didn't return for a few months. When we came back in July the old outhouse hole had sprouted a large tomato plant with the fattest, ripest red tomatoes imaginable. Unfortunately we forgot to harvest them before leaving. We're still trying to track down the person who donated the last of the "fertilizer."
What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so why don't you add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page.
