Article about what to do after using the Loo
Article about what to do after using the Loo
Photo from Nancy

Nancy sent me an Email saying she had an Outhouse built after looking at one of our Outhouses on the Tour. Here is what she had to say about it...
This outhouse was built following instructions obtained from your website. The mailbox inside the Outhouse is where the Toilet Paper is kept.
I asked her if she bought the plans...
We did not buy plans, nope. The metal siding was leftover from a roof we built over the trailer. I was running out of excess men to rake the roof in the winter. I wanted a roof so steep that it was impossible for snow to stick on it.
When the roof job was done (2010), I hit the internet looking at all sorts of outhouses. Of course, this took me to your site. I handed an Amish guy in our area pictures of several outhouses. LOL, your Loo was not amongst the examples I handed to the Amish guy. I am fairly sure your loo and my barn both are held up by duck tape and bailing twine. Anyway, I am not sure he even knows how to follow plans, but he is so talented, draw him a picture & he can build it.
Actually, your picture gave me an idea I didn't have. A thermometer.
I wrote to your website soon after I got the loo asking how you all washed your hands. I don't remember your answer, but I wrote countryside magazine afterwards. Here is a copy of the article (the article copy is shown above). Anyway, I have come to the conclusion that people that own outhouses don't wash their hands. :-D (Not true...the Curator actually keeps a large container of Lysol wipes right next to our Loveable Loo and after using the Loo, everyone just pulls out a sheet, wipes their hands and throws the used sheet in the fire pit. Of course we also have Wet Wipes so they can choose between them!)
The loo was invaluable during Hurricane Sandy and the 2012 Derecho.
As far as I am concerned, anyone that doesn't have an outhouse is poverty stricken.
Well, we think it's a fine Outhouse and a great example of what can be done by reusing materials and going green!

What else can you see in the images shown? Many times a photo is worth a thousand words and I've only elaborated with a few so why don't you add some "color commentary" to my collection. If your addition is worthy, you will find the quote added on the Comments to the Curator page. For additional comments, begin on this page and click the links to see all the years...
